Overview
This course provides a systematic overview of the inherently inter-disciplinary nature of migration studies and the challenges involved. Students will come to understand how different disciplines contribute to the accumulation of knowledge and to a more comprehensive understanding of migration, than would be possible with only one or a few disciplinary approaches. In part, this is achieved by investigating a series of cases to which different disciplinary approaches are applied. The course aims to improve students’ understanding of the choices made in migration research and their capacity for critical reflection on the foundations of theoretical and empirical claims made by researchers from a variety of different disciplines. The course shall discuss positive affirmative action in development planning and practice to promote gender equity and equality. It also provides students with in-depth knowledge of various project management techniques and theories.
There will be internship, field placement and research project writing that are important for the program with the objective to expose students with the fundamentals as well as the core strategic tools in handling issues related to gender and project management.
GOAL
The overall goal of the BSc. program is to give participants understanding of the concepts and theories of gender, migration, refugee management and sustainable development and empower students with the analytical skills and tools to effectively initiate monitor and evaluate development projects related to migration and refugee management. It will also provide solid foundation for advanced study leading to careers in different fields of Development and Management studies and provide opportunities for inter-disciplinary specialization at higher degree levels.
TARGET POPULATION
The program targets qualified candidates with Advanced Level certificate, Higher National Diploma/Higher Technical Diploma in Development Studies, and other relevant qualifications in development. The course is also designed for men and women project planners and management staff/Trainers, development workers, community development workers, Extension staffs and development practitioners from government and private sector who are involved in planning and managing projects.
DURATION OF THE COURSE
The BSc. program is designed to cover a period of three academic (3) years of six semesters. However, candidates with a Higher National Diploma/Higher Technical Diploma in Development Studies in specific specialized areas will be admitted into the second year of the BSc programme. This program will cover a period of three calendar years.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
A bachelor degree in gender migration and Refugee management will cover a wide range of concepts related to this field. During the first phase of the program, students will acquire fundamental knowledge about gender, migration and refugee studies concepts. Later in the program, more advanced courses in the program will be covered such as theories of migration, internal and international gender differences in migration, Causes and effects of migration ,Gender issues in migration, Gender ,migration and globalization ,Migration and national and international development linked on Remittances. The cause and the effects of refugees shall be handled with students also given a wide range of techniques to effectively manage refugee camps. Students then choose from a range of options with strong relevance for their specialization write a project. Internship and field placement are part of the curriculum with PAID-WA’s major objective to expose students with the fundamentals as well as the core strategic tools in handling issues related to the practice of public and private development. The course culminates in writing a Research Project chosen by the student and mutually agreed upon by the Supervisory Under-Graduate Committee.

OUTCOME
At the end of the course, graduates and certificate holders should have among other skills gained knowledge of how to mainstream gender in the socio economic and political development processes as they manage and handle development issues related to gender migration and refugee studies efficiently.

Graduates can fully gain employment in the following sectors Private, Parastatals and Government Institutions, International organizations. NGOs, LSOs, CIGs, embassies, refugees and asylum seekers in international organizations, and in local government authorities and charities, as well as Outsourcing Agencies among others.
